Lady Cats drop region game

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team dropped a 6-2 Region 1-AAAAA game to the Northside Columbus High School Patriots, on Saturday in Columbus, Ga.

The Patriots took a 2-0 first-inning lead on an error, a double and a single.

The Lady Cats bounced back with two in the top of the fourth to tie it up 2-2. Center fielder Anna Barber ignited the rally with a two-out single.

Barber moved up to second when pitcher Brooke Bates singled. Shortstop Maegan Harrison then smashed a double, driving in both runners.
The Lady Patriots added three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to put the game away.

Two singles, a stolen base, a hit batsman and an error produced the three fifth inning runs. A hit batsman, an error and a fielder’s choice got the Lady Patriots’ sixth run across.

The Lady Cats returned to action Tuesday, hosting the Miller County High School Lady Pirates. They will host the Valdosta High School Lady Wildcats today at 5 p.m. It will be senior night.

Senior pitcher, infielder and outfielder Caitlin Cato, senior outfielder Alisha Peterson, senior third baseman and first baseman Morgan Powell, and senior outfielder Destiné Salter will be honored during pregame ceremonies.

The Lady Cats will conclude the regular season with a Friday 4 p.m. Region 1-AAAAA home game against Columbus’s Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks.

The Region 1-AAAAA Tournament will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 5, at Lee County High School, in Leesburg, Ga.
