Cross-country teams open Saturday in PerryPublished 9:41am Friday, August 24, 2012
Coach Lisa Enfinger’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats cross-country teams open their season today, in Perry, Ga., at the Georgia Mid State Classic.
Enfinger will be assisted by returning community coach Greg Waddell.
Among the top Bearcats runners are sophomore Chase Harris, junior Devonte Ross and freshman Bennett Enfinger.
Harris, running for the Grace Christian Academy Cougars in 2011, won the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) Epic 5K overall championship, with a time of 17 minutes, 58.60 seconds.
The run annually benefits the Dylan Reid Faircloth “tha First” Memorial Cross Country Scholarship, which is named for a late former Bearcats cross-country runner and organ donor.
Top Lady Cats returning are sisters Paige and Amber Braswell. Paige is a junior and Amber is a senior.
Paige was the overall female Epic 5K winner last year, with a time of 23 minutes, 23.87 seconds.
“We are excited about getting the season started,” Enfinger said. “The young men and young ladies have really been working hard to get ready.”
