Claire Bryan Hodges, 93, of Bainbridge, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at her residence.

The funeral service was held on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. A private interment was held at Oak City Cemetery.

Mrs. Hodges was born June 22, 1919, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Donald Roscoe Bryan and Clara Sutherland Bryan. Claire graduated from Bainbridge High School and attended Georgia Southern Teachers College. She had the first kindergarten class, in her home in Pelham, Ga., until her family moved back to Bainbridge in 1957. She worked part-time with her husband at Hodges Tractor Company and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Claire was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a close friend to many. She was known for her wonderful cooking and gift of hospitality in her home on Douglas Drive. Claire enjoyed golfing with her husband, working in her beautiful yard, and painting. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Glenn C. Hodges; her son, Glenn C. “Bubba” Hodges Jr.; and her brothers, David T. Bryan, Donald R. Bryan and Jack Bryan.

Survivors include her son, Dewitt P. “Dee” Hodges and his wife, Anne, of Concord, N.C.; her daughter, Claire H. Gaines and her husband, Marx, of Thomasville, Ga.; her daughter-in-law, Glenda W. Hodges of Bainbridge; her nine grandchildren; and her 17 great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge.
