The Bainbridge Leisure Services Department’s 11-and-12-year-old Midget Major All-Star baseball team dropped two games to finish fifth in a strong 10-team field at the recent Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) state tournament at Bill Reynolds Sports Park, in Bainbridge.
The tournament was held from Tuesday, July 10, through Saturday, July 14.
Camden County, who won the tournament by downing Cartersville 4-3 in the July 14 championship game, opened play with a 7-3 victory over Bainbridge on July 11.
Bainbridge scored its initial two runs in the fifth inning and added its final run in the sixth inning.
Wesley Morrow drew a walk to open the fifth and moved up to second on a single by Walt Burrell. They both scored on fielder’s choices. The sixth-inning run was scored by Caleb Boutwell, who singled.
On July 11, Bainbridge was eliminated 7-0 by Thomasville. Tripp Alford had a pair of singles to pace the Bainbridge attack.
Thomasville, who lost their opening game to Calhoun County, 2-1, went on to defeat Early County 14-7 and Atlanta 20-5, before bowing out with a 10-4 loss to runner-up Cartersville.
