The Bainbridge Leisure Services Department’s 14-year-old and under All-Star baseball team won three of five games at this week’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) State Tournament at Bill Reynolds Sports Park.
The Bainbridge All-Stars, coached by Lance Lane and Suton Reece, were eliminated Friday when they dropped an 8-0 decision to Liberty County. Their biggest threat came in the fifth inning when Cayden McQuaig doubled and moved to third on a fielder’s choice before being stranded.
Bainbridge opened tournament play with an 8-3 Tuesday win over Liberty County.
Their big scoring inning was the fourth, when they rallied for five runs. Third baseman Ty Varnum opened the inning with a single and moved up on an error by the centerfielder. He later scored on a single by first baseman Carson Inlow.
Inlow moved up to second on an error and left fielder Anthony Henry walked. Lawson Lane then drove in two runs with a double.
On Wednesday night, Bainbridge lost, 7-2, to Cedartown. They scored single runs in the second and third innings.
Shortstop Nolan Haire singled and scored in the second, and Inlow singled and scored in the third.
On Thursday, they shut out Ware County, 1-0, and defeated Cairo, 10-4, in extra innings.
A.J. Jackson singled and came around to score the winning run against Ware County in the fifth inning.
Bainbridge broke a 4-4 tie with six runs in the ninth inning against Cairo. The big blow of the inning was a two-run double by Jackson.
