Post-Searchlight wins 2 GPA awards

The Post-Searchlight won two journalism awards in Saturday’s Georgia Press Association 2012 Better Newspaper Contest.

The Post-Searchlight earned second place in the Editorial Page category, and second place in the Lifestyle Coverage category.

The winning page for the Lifestyle Coverage category was from the issue dated Nov. 5, 2011. It featured a front-page story by Carolyn Iamon, about the St. John’s Episcopal Church knitting group and a photo by Brennan Leathers, of kids riding a roller coaster at the Decatur County Fair.

The winning editorial page was from the issue dated Aug. 31, 2011.

“We are very proud of these awards,” Post-Searchlight publisher Jeff Findley said. “They are a testament to the hard work done every day by our talented staff of writers, photographers and designers. We take our job very seriously, and it is nice to earn some positive recognition from our fellow journalists.”

The awards were presented at the Southeastern Press Convention on Saturday. The Post-Searchlight participates in Division E, which includes all tri-weekly and bi-weekly newspapers, regardless of circulation.
