Lady Cats advance to third round

Coach Amy Thomas’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats tennis team advanced to the third round of the State Class AAAA Tournament, with a 3-2 Tuesday home victory over Peachtree City’s McIntosh High School Lady Chiefs.

Thomas’s Bearcats dropped their second-round Tuesday home match 0-5 to McIntosh.

The Lady Cats will hit the road to take on the Greenbrier High School Wolf Pack on Friday in Evans, Ga., near Augusta.

The Lady Cats won all three singles matches Tuesday against the Lady Chiefs. Hillary Flournoy won 6-2, 6-7. 6-1 at No. 1. Kristen Monson won 7-5, 5-1 at No. 2, before her opponent had to retire for medical reasons in the third set. Anne Reynolds won 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number three.

In doubles, Emma Kate Smith and Kelly Brooks lost 1-6, 2-6 at No. 1 and Meredith Conder and Lynsey Waddell lost 4-6, 4-6 at No. 2.

“I am so proud of our girls,” Thomas said after the match. ”All three of our singles players were capable of winning at any position. “Our two doubles teams also had their chances.

“I am also very proud of our boys team. They have had a great season.”

In boys action Tuesday, Hema Hasona lost 6-4, 2-6, with a 3-10 tiebreaker at No. 1 singles. Mitchell Massengill lost 6-4, 4-6, with a 9-11 tie breaker at No. 2 singles, and Cole Bulger lost 0-6, 3-6 at No. 3.

In doubles, Stone Inlow and Nolan Lovering lost 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 and Zack Poague and Jack Reynolds lost 1-6, 3-6 at No. 2.
