The Region 1-AAAA South Sub-Region champion Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team advanced to the second round of the Region 1-AAAA tournament, with a 6-4 Tuesday win over Northside-Columbus, the No. 4 team in Region 1-AAAA North, at Centennial Field.

Bainbridge jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Northside battled back all the way to take a 4-3 lead. The Bearcats scored the final two goals of the game to pick up the first-round victory.

The Bearcats will host a second-round tournament game Friday at 6 p.m. against Hardaway, the No. 2 seed from the North Sub-Region. Hardaway beat Thomas County Central 4-0 in a first-round game Tuesday.

The top four teams from the region advance to the Class AAAA playoffs; therefore, Bainbridge has already clinched its spot.

The Class AAAA playoffs begin May 1.
