The funeral service for Mrs. Helen Smith Hatton Howell, 79, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David Grubbs and Rev. Everett Foskey officiating. Interment will follow at Thursby Cemetery near Donalsonville, Ga., with Corky Grubbs, Scott Messer, Bobby Grubbs, Jackie Grubbs, Glen Hatton, and Charlie Miller serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Howell was born March 3, 1932, in Syracuse, N.Y., the daughter of Hubert R. Smith and Genevieve Smith. She died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her sons, James R. Hatton Jr. and John R. Hatton; her daughter, Diane Hall; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Lyn Bush.

Survivors include her husband, Hugh Dorsey Howell of Bainbridge; her sons, Herman R. Hatton and his wife, Frances, of Brinson, Al Hatton and his wife, Candy, of Crawfordville, Fla., Ron Hatton and his wife, Debra, of Bainbridge, and Hugh D. Howell Jr. of Bainbridge; her daughters, Betty Loyless and her husband, Roger, of Brinson, Inez White of Bowling Green, Ky., Donna Maloy and her husband, Chuck, of Climax, and Theresa Ritter and her husband, Danny, of Bainbridge; her 20 grandchildren, her 13 great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-grandson.
