Approximately 300 volunteers were scattered throughout Decatur County Saturday morning, picking up trash as part of Keep Decatur County Beautiful’s annual Rivers Alive campaign. Suzanne Brandt, the executive director of KDCB, said the turnout for this year’s event was tremendous. “We’re got people we’ve never heard from before,” Brandt said. “There’s a lot of new volunteers.” Last year, the event collected 5.36 tons of trash. Figures are still collected for Saturday’s event, including the number of tires retrieved.
